Recently, I saw that my score on the LGBTQ Democrats of Mecklenburg County’s candidate
scorecard came back as insufficient. I want to be clear, that rating does not reflect who I am, or
what I believe.
I have family members and close friends who are part of the LGBTQ community. I have seen
their struggles, but I have also seen their strength. And anyone who knows me, really knows
me, knows that I believe as long as you are a decent human being, you deserve dignity, respect,
and equal protection under the law. Period.
This belief is at the core of why I am running for Charlotte City Council. Because a city as strong
and diverse as ours should be a place where everyone belongs, no matter who they are, or who
they love.
Equality in Practice
As a Council member, I will stand up and speak up to make sure our policies reflect fairness and
inclusion. That means defending nondiscrimination protections in hiring, contracting, housing,
public services, and city operations, ensuring LGBTQ residents are fully protected. I will work to
expand the city’s efforts to include and promote LGBTQ-owned businesses, advocate against
harmful rollback policies at the state level, and support local hate-crime reporting that includes
LGBTQ status. I will also back efforts to ensure LGBTQ youth have safe access to healthcare
and supportive communities. Ultimately, I want every Charlotte resident to be treated with
dignity, respect, and equality.

Why This Matters for Charlotte
Charlotte is a city on the rise, but growth only matters if it includes all of us. When we protect
equality, we strengthen neighborhoods. When we ensure fair treatment, we build trust. And
when every resident knows they belong, we become a safer, stronger community.
My Commitment
I know that not everyone in our city sees eye to eye on every issue. But I believe we all share a
common hope, that our children grow up in a city where they are safe, respected, and given the
chance to thrive. That is what I am fighting for.
If I have the honor of serving on the City Council, I will fight every day to make Charlotte a city
where everyone belongs, no matter who you are, or who you love. That is my commitment to you.
